The idea for this show was conceived by Aneesa Ali, who is also curating it at Garage Gallery.
Aneesa says: "1947 The Exhibition" is a visual telling of the histories that shaped the emergence of Pakistan and India as separate nations. Taking place on Pakistan and India Independence Days, the exhibition invites viewers to engage with the forces of power that drove the Partition and the profound human consequences that followed. It brings into view a historic event too often pushed to the margins of British public memory. Using visual subjects and objects as witnesses to history, the exhibition tells a story often left untold and explores a chapter in the enduring legacy of the British Empire, the effects of which continue to echo across generations."
